Click a piece, then click a highlighted square to move.
Chess is a two-player game on an 8×8 board. White moves first and players alternate. You win by checkmating the enemy king — attacking it so no legal move saves it.
- Pawn (1 pt): forward one square (two from its start), captures diagonally. Reaching the last rank promotes it.
- Knight (3 pts): L-shape (two then one); the only piece that jumps.
- Bishop (3 pts): any distance diagonally.
- Rook (5 pts): any distance in straight lines.
- Queen (9 pts): rook + bishop combined.
- King: one square any direction; can never move into check.
Special moves (all automatic here): castling, en passant, and promotion — when you promote, a picker appears so you can choose queen, rook, bishop or knight.
Draws: stalemate, insufficient material, threefold repetition and the 50-move rule are all enforced.
